Ch. Meyney Saint Estèphe – An Experience for True Connoisseurs
Château Meyney is one of the historic estates of Saint-Estèphe, overlooking the Gironde and neighbouring Château Montrose. Its 51-hectare single-block vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a significant share of Petit Verdot. Gravel and sand over a thick seam of blue clay – reminiscent of top Pomerol sites – give the wine depth, power and a creamy texture. Vines are on average 35–40 years old and the grapes are hand picked, fermented parcel by parcel and aged in French oak barriques. The bouquet offers blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum with tobacco, licorice and spice. On the palate Meyney is full-bodied and dense yet surprisingly supple, with ripe tannins, cool freshness and a long, gently saline finish.
