Château Lagrange Saint-Julien – The Essence of True Craftsmanship
Château Lagrange is a Third Growth in Saint-Julien and, with more than one hundred hectares under vine, one of the largest estates in the appellation. Its red vineyards lie on two gravelly mounds rich in quartz over clay-limestone subsoils, with some sandier patches adding lift. Around two thirds of the plantings are Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Merlot and a little Petit Verdot, and the average vine age comfortably exceeds thirty years. Hand harvesting with optical sorting is followed by plot-by-plot fermentation in stainless-steel tanks and ageing in French oak barrels. The bouquet offers cassis, blackberry and cherry with violet, cedar and discreet toast. On the palate this Saint-Julien is focused and precise, with cool, dense fruit, firm ripe tannins and vibrant acidity. A long, well-balanced finish brings together classic Médoc backbone and the elegant, gently spicy signature of Saint-Julien.
