| Venus from Venus La Universal is the flagship cuvée of Sara Pérez and René Barbier in Montsant. It is built on very old Cariñena and Garnacha vines with a dash of Syrah, rooted in steep, stony slopes. The bouquet combines black cherry, plum, violets, graphite and dried Mediterranean herbs. On the palate the wine is deep and concentrated yet surprisingly refined, with well-judged oak framing the fruit. Tannins are firm but polished, and a vibrant acidity drives the long, mineral finish. A complex, terroir-driven Montsant that pairs beautifully with braised beef, game or mature hard cheeses. Give it time in a large glass or decanter to let the layers fully unfold. | |
