| Michael Wenzel Merlot originates from the rolling hills around Rust on the western shore of Lake Neusiedl and is made in a low-intervention style. On the nose it opens with stewed plums, blackberries and blueberry muffins, joined by notes of vanilla, cocoa and gentle spice. On the palate the Merlot is full-bodied and juicy, with soft, ripe tannins and a dense core of fruit. Despite its richness the wine remains elegant and well structured, carried by fresh acidity and a moreish flow. The finish lingers with dark berries, sweet spice and a hint of chocolate. A characterful red from Rust that works just as well with burgers and barbecue as with braised dishes, roasted vegetables or chocolate desserts. | |
