Château La Croix du Casse
On the southern edge of the Pomerol plateau, Château La Croix du Casse shows how much history can hide behind a modest façade. Local vine growing is traced back to Gallo‑Roman times; in the 12th century the Hospitallers helped replant vineyards in the area. A modern reset came in 1956 when Georges Audy undertook major replanting after severe frost, and since 2005 the Castéja family (Borie‑Manoux) has driven investment in structure and precision.
The terroir blends sand and ancient gravels with iron-rich “crasse de fer”, a matrix that gives Merlot breadth yet keeps a firm line. Cabernet Franc adds contour. Hand harvesting, parcel selection and temperature-controlled fermentations keep the style clean.
Barrique ageing provides backbone without masking origin. The wine reads as Pomerol in a direct, craftsmanlike key: generous in texture, tightened by mineral tension, and finished with a lingering, soil-led echo.Château La Croix du Casse
