Josef Tesch
In Neckenmarkt, in Austria’s Mittelburgenland DAC—often called Blaufränkischland—red wine finds its natural stage, and at Weingut Josef Tesch (Neckenmarkt) it has been a family craft since 1850. Deep loam and loess, Pannonian warmth and cool evening breezes shape grapes with density, freshness and natural grip; sites such as Bergleiten or Hochberg set the rhythm.
What began as Pepi Tesch’s small-scale Blaufränkisch project in the late 1970s became a focused cellar philosophy: selective hand harvest, clean maceration, precise extraction and élevage that lets tannin settle into form—often in barrique or larger oak. A modern, minimalist relaunch refined the look, but the aim stayed the same: structured, terroir-driven wines with clarity and unmistakable Burgenland character. Low yields and rigorous selection keep the style tight, never heavy.Josef Tesch
