Weingut Josef Igler

On the sunlit slopes of Deutschkreutz in Central Burgenland, the pulse of Weingut Josef Igler beats to one grape: Blaufränkisch. Sites such as Goldberg, Hochberg, Mitterberg and Satz sit on deep, humus-rich loam and sandy gravel, soils that build density while keeping a firm, mineral frame.

In the cellar, the aim is definition rather than drama: careful sorting, measured extraction and a patient élevage mainly in large oak, with selected lots seeing barrique to knit tannin and fruit. The result is a style that feels precise, regional and unmistakably Pannonian.

While Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zweigelt and a pointed Sauvignon Blanc add range, the estate’s calling card remains its Blaufränkisch in multiple cuvées—crafted from moderate yields, shaped by parcel work, and built to translate Deutschkreutz into a confident, modern red-wine signature.
