| Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Massetino, Toscana: The essence of true craftsmanship | |
| Massetino is the second wine of the Masseto estate and, like its famous sibling, comes from the hills around Bolgheri in Tuscany. The blend is based largely on Merlot with a share of Cabernet Franc and ages in carefully selected barriques. The bouquet offers dark cherry, blackberry and plum alongside dried tomato, Mediterranean herbs, tobacco and subtle oak. On the palate Massetino is juicy, dense and silky, with ripe tannins, a gentle toastiness and well integrated spice. The structure is powerful yet polished, supported by fresh acidity and a long, savoury, fruit driven finish. This modern Super Tuscan already drinks beautifully in its youth and pairs well with braised meats, lamb, game birds and richly sauced pasta. | |
