Willi Schaefer
In Germany, on the Middle Mosel at Graach, Willi Schaefer is a benchmark for Riesling purity on barely five hectares—yet drawn from storied sites: Graacher Domprobst, Graacher Himmelreich and Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Family roots are traced in local records back to 1121; the estate has been part of the VDP since 1993 and is now run by Christoph and Andrea Schaefer.
Devonian slate soils, steep exposures and meticulous hand picking shape the vineyards. In the cellar, tradition rules: gentle pressing, slow fermentations and ageing in old Mosel Fuder casks, often with extended lees contact so tension and balance can knit naturally.
The voice is quiet but exacting—parcel by parcel, vintage by vintage, Mosel precision expressed through patience rather than polish and built to age. Well.Willi Schaefer
