Castello di Verrazzano Chianti Classico Riserva comes from hillside vineyards around Greve in Chianti, where limestone soils help Sangiovese to achieve great aromatic intensity. According to the estate the blend is largely Sangiovese with a small share of other local grapes and the wine ages for about two years in oak casks before further bottle ageing. The bouquet shows ripe red fruit, cherry and plum alongside violet, tobacco, pepper and gentle toasted notes. On the palate the Riserva is juicy, precise and elegant, with fine-grained tannins, lively acidity and impressive depth. A long, savoury, slightly mineral finish makes it a superb match for braised meats, game, rich pasta dishes and aged Pecorino.
