Espectacle del Montsant

High above Priorat in Tarragona, Montsant reveals a quieter grandeur—and at Espectacle del Montsant that grandeur is distilled into a single, storied site.

The wine is born from Garnacha vines well over a century old, rooted around La Figuera in poor clay-limestone soils that limit vigor and concentrate naturally. The project unites renowned hands led by René Barbier, working with low-intervention viticulture, strict selection and gentle extraction so that the power of old vines remains poised rather than heavy.

Production stays deliberately small, and the cellar work is patient: fermentation and ageing in large French oak vessels, then an extended élevage of roughly 14–16 months to knit structure and line. The result is Montsant with presence and restraint—focused, precise, and carried by the landscape more than by technique.
