Lang Helmut

In Illmitz in Austria’s Burgenland, in the Seewinkel by Lake Neusiedl, Weingut Helmut Lang has refined its voice over three generations. For more than 65 years the estate has deliberately leaned into one of the region’s great gifts: Prädikat wines, where ripeness, selection and natural balance matter more than cellar cosmetics.

The philosophy is clear-cut: let the vineyard speak, then step back. Spontaneous fermentation is the rule, not the exception, so each vintage can carry the Seewinkel’s signature—sunlit days, cool influences from the lake, and the humid autumn air that can set the stage for noble rot.

Recognition has followed this quiet consistency: in 2018 the winery was named IWC Sweet Wine Maker of the Year. Yet the ambition remains simple—precision, patience, and wines that feel truthful to their place.
