Laurona

In the rugged amphitheatre of Montsant, Celler Laurona shapes wines under DO Montsant with a distinctly pioneering lens. Launched in 1999 by Christopher Cannan and René Barbier, the estate is now reimagined as Fiona Fischer’s personal project—still anchored in old-vine ambition rather than polished spectacle.

Around the terraces and villages, Garnatxa and Carinyena from bush vines dig into a patchwork of slate, limestone and sandy clay, while cooler nights keep ripening measured. In the cellar the mindset stays parcel-driven: selective hand harvest, gentle maceration, élevage in wood and neutral vessels so site and vintage remain in focus.

Laurona reads like a time mirror—Mediterranean heritage, carefully refined, and determined to place Montsant on the map as a terroir with its own voice.
