Le Petit Cheval

In Bordeaux, Le Petit Cheval is the second cuvée of the famed Château Cheval Blanc—born with the 1988 vintage and crafted as a true ‘second wine of a first’. Its backbone comes from the estate’s rare patchwork of gravel, clay and sand, a terroir that lets Merlot and Cabernet Franc speak with precision rather than volume.

Everything is built parcel by parcel: hand harvesting, separate fermentations, measured extraction and a patient blending of selected lots, before élevage in French oak. The aim is earlier harmony, not shortcuts—an introduction to the house style without diluting its standards.

Le Petit Cheval captures the discipline of Cheval Blanc in a more immediate rhythm: structured yet fluid, shaped by meticulous vineyard choices and the quiet authority of Right Bank craftsmanship.
