Les Hauts de Smith
On the warm Günz gravel plateau of Pessac-Leognan, Les Hauts de Smith is born as the second wine of Château Smith Haut Lafitte – a Graves Cru Classé with origins traced back to the 14th century and revitalised since 1990 under Daniel and Florence Cathiard through major, quality‑driven investment.
Fruit is drawn mainly from younger vines and carefully chosen parcels within the estate’s single block, harvested plot by plot and often in several passes. Biodiversity is treated as a practical tool: cover crops, gentle soil work and vine material propagated in the château’s own nursery aim to preserve genetic diversity and steady balance.
In the cellar, the mindset stays “Grand Vin”: precise fermentations, élevage in French oak and, when relevant, time on lees, with patience as a quiet craft. Les Hauts de Smith delivers the house signature in a more immediate key – terroir‑first, meticulously made, and unmistakably Graves in its sense of structure and lift.Les Hauts de Smith
