Fetzer
Up in California’s Mendocino County, near Hopland, the Fetzer story began in 1968 with a simple instinct: healthy vineyards make honest wine. Long before sustainability became a slogan, the estate pushed toward lighter farming, planting its first organic blocks in 1987 and adding Demeter-certified Biodynamic® ranches from 2000 onward.
Mendocino’s cool Pacific influence and the breath of nearby redwood forests slow the rhythm of ripening. Cover crops, biodiversity and regenerative soil work are treated as viticultural tools—ways to keep balance, resilience and clarity in the fruit.
In 2021 the winery achieved Regenerative Organic Certification, and in 2020 it publicly declared a climate emergency, setting an ambition to become climate positive in its operations by 2030. The house style feels contemporary and transparent, built on place and purpose rather than excess.Fetzer
