Gin Sul
Behind brick walls and workshop doors, Gin Sul in Hamburg feels like a small window to the Atlantic. Founded in 2013, the Altonaer Spirituosen Manufaktur works from a hidden courtyard in Altona—once a coal store, now a craft distillery defined by copper, patience and small batches.
Production stays resolutely hands‑on: controlled maceration, tight cuts, and careful redistillation in a compact copper pot still. Juniper and coriander are joined by rosemary, lavender and warm spices, while fresh Algarve lemons arrive regularly to be peeled by hand. A final, unmistakable accent is gum rockrose (cistus/labdanum), a botanical nod to Portuguese roots.
Even the bottle tells the story: ivory stoneware jugs that shield the spirit from light, echoing old jenever traditions. It’s modern German craft gin with a decidedly southern heartbeat—clean technique, clear provenance, no theatrics.Gin Sul
