Vollenweider
High above Germany’s Middle Mosel, on the steep slopes around Wolf, Vollenweider has built a Riesling world defined by precision. Daniel Vollenweider founded the estate in 2000 with little more than a hectare in the Wolfer Goldgrube; from 2019 he shaped it with Moritz Hoffmann, who has carried the vision forward since 2022.
Slate is the constant: grey rock threaded with red veins, storing warmth by day and releasing it slowly at night. Farming here is pure handwork on vertiginous inclines, harvest is selective, and fermentations are often spontaneous. Élevage favours calm—classic Mosel Fuder casks and/or stainless steel—frequently with extended time on lees to sharpen texture and drive.
The sip is Mosel as line and light, not cliché: vibrant acidity, stony tension, a filament of energy that keeps unfolding. Vollenweider’s charm lies in restraint—quiet, disciplined, and unmistakably steep-slope in its clarity.Vollenweider
