Les Carruades de Lafite
In Pauillac, where the gravelly Carruades plateau borders the vineyards of Château Lafite Rothschild, Les Carruades de Lafite is crafted as the estate’s second wine – a focused expression from a First Growth ranked in the 1855 classification. The name itself nods to parcels added in the 19th century that still shape today’s selections.
Harvesting is done parcel by parcel with strict sorting; younger vines and lots outside the tightest Grand Vin core bring immediacy while keeping the lift of Pauillac gravel. Cabernet Sauvignon provides the spine, and a noticeable share of Merlot rounds the contours, giving Carruades its supple, approachable architecture.
In the cellar, the standards remain uncompromising: controlled fermentations, measured extraction and élevage in French oak barriques, with time as a quiet ingredient. The result is not a mere “second”, but a wine with its own identity – precise, classic and unmistakably rooted in the terroir of the Médoc.Les Carruades de Lafite
