L'If
High on the Saint‑Émilion limestone plateau, Château L’If opened a new chapter in the 2010s under the Thienpont family’s guidance.
Jacques Thienpont acquired the estate in 2010 and chose a name that continues the family’s tree motif. On roughly eight hectares, clay‑limestone soils and cool sublayers shape the vines; replanting and meticulous parcel mapping aim for purity of expression. Merlot and Cabernet Franc are harvested separately, rigorously sorted and vinified with a light hand, often through spontaneous fermentations. A purpose‑built cellar is designed for precision rather than spectacle.
Ageing in barriques, with a growing role for larger vessels, keeps structure and origin at the centre. L’If is Saint‑Émilion with restraint: focused, architectural and uncompromisingly terroir‑driven.L'If
