Hannes Haiden

By Lake Neusiedl, Hannes Haiden in Oggau shapes Burgenland wines with a clear sense of place. After taking over the family estate in 1995, Weinhaus Haiden expanded to more than twenty hectares, drawing fruit from Rieden around Oggau, St. Georgen, Trausdorf, St. Margarethen and Rust.

A massive cellar built in the 1960s for a local cooperative now hosts meticulous work: selective hand picking, parcel‑focused lots and a cellar philosophy that prefers structure over make‑up. Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt sit beside expressive whites; depending on the site, élevage moves between stainless steel, large oak and extended lees contact to refine texture and keep energy.

The lakeside terroir does the rest—warm days, cool nights and constant wind that preserves freshness. The result is an unmistakably northern Burgenland signature: wines that feel grounded, precise and quietly confident, speaking more of vineyards than of cellar tricks.
